Starting with Essential Oils

I love introducing people to the wonder of essential oils!

This week I was at a health fair where I met some wonderful people; many of whom had the same question: “But how do I use essential oils? What would I do with them?”

I gave them some ideas but promised a newsletter that would give them even more suggestions.

Essential oils are so potent, it is easy to carry a few of them around with you, using them throughout your day to calm your mood, uplift your spirit, relax your muscles, relieve pain and kill germs.

  • Tea Tree oil and True Lavender can be used directly on a cut, scrape or scratch to sooth and speed healing. (These are the 2 oils you can use undiluted on the skin, most oils need to be diluted before applied to skin.)
  • Put 6-8 drops of essential oils like Lavender and Ylang Ylang in a shot glass amount of milk or cream, stir and then add to your bath. (Use a milk with fat in it to help disperse the essential oils because they can irritate the skin if not diluted. You can also use a vegetable oil but that can make the tub slippery.)
  • Put 6-8 drops of essential oils on a washcloth and drop it on the floor of your shower and close the curtain, the smell with disperse in the hot water.  Oils like Geranium and Lemon will wake you up in the morning!
  • Every time my Aromatherapy instructor moves into a hotel room, she fills the sink with hot water and drops in some of her favorite essential oils.  The scent quickly fills up the room. Lavender, Cypress, and Frankincense smell lovely and disinfect as well.
  • Lavender and Grapefruit are great for an office environment; True Lavender is soothing and Grapefruit is energizing. You can use a diffuser https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/search/search.php?page=1&utf8=%E2%9C%93&refine=y&keywords=diffusers&commit=Go or just put a few drops on a tissue on your desk.
  • Peppermint is an oil everyone should have! Sniffing straight from the bottle can help a headache, soothe nausea and wake you up. My husband always has a bottle in his car.
  • Place a few drops of a soothing oils on your pillow. Try Lavender, Neroli or Marjoram to help you fall asleep.

There are countless other ways to use oils, but this list can get you going.

I make essential oil blends in sprays, roll-ons or massage oils to suit your specific needs so if you want to enjoy some essential oil products, give me a call or email me.

If you want to experiment with buying some of your own oils, as I wrote in the previous newsletters, finding a good source for essential oils can be a bit tricky. The oils that come from the companies below are amazing! These are all smaller businesses that focus on the quality of the oils.  I don’t get a kick-back from these folks; I just wanted to give you their names so you can have access to their wonderful and (relatively) affordable products.
