I’ve been making up lots of custom sprays and roll-ons this week before I go on vacation. I love to sit, surrounded by my oils, bottles, droppers, stickers and bottles of spring water, to make up wonderful blends for people.
But, today I was in a.rush to do some errands, plan the house/dog sitter and then go to work so I sat down somewhat distracted. I was making a sleep blend for a child. One of the best oils for helping children relax is Green Mandarin. It smells like some fresh, delicious candy. Yum! I took a preoccupied sniff of it from the bottle and WOW! I felt a complete shift in my mood and body. It was so quick and intense – I was surprised. And I’m an aromatherapist! I know this stuff works, but even I was shocked by the speed and depth of the shift.
Green Mandarin is a bright cheering essential oil that is great for stress and is deeply relaxing, but not sedating. It is made from the rind of green unripe mandarin oranges that are pressed to extract the bright green oil.

Mandarin is one of the essential oils used at the the Mayo Clinic, “massage therapists and acupuncturists augment therapies with the gentle scent of mandarin essential oil. Patients have reported reduced stress, better digestion and less nausea,” http://www.prevention.com/mind-body/emotional-health/scent-citrus-shown-reduce-stress
It is great for oily skin (diluted in a carrier oil or spring water) and can be nice for people who want a relaxing essential oil but don’t want a floral scent. Green Mandarin is perfect for diffusing in a room at bedtime or anytime. It is a special combination of relaxation and cheering. This morning it really helped me come back to the moment and calm down. In that moment I remembered that I deeply enjoy sitting at my desk and making up essential oil combinations and I went at it in a much more peaceful and intuitive state.
Green Mandarin is a great oil to have at home. It is inexpensive and can be used in many ways to help bring calm and joy into your life (baths, (diluted in whole milk), massage, diffusing, spraying, and sniffing straight from the bottle.)
(The citrus oils do go rancid after a time (6 months to 2 years) so it’s good to buy a small amount to begin with and/or keep it in the fridge. If it smells like turpentine don’t use it :)!)
Here’s the link from my favorite place to buy oils. 20mls for 5.39! Go buy some and keep it handy for when you (or someone else) needs a calming or cheering up.
Enjoy the ripe fruits of summer!
I’m heading off for vacation and will take a week next off from the newsletter. I hope you have a great week!
